Haven't used it in anger yet but have got it out and the two of us got in it (warms up in there surprisingly quickly, I see why they are adamant that you need to keep the vent clear!) We didn't try it with our backpacks as well, it would be pretty snug I reckon, but to know you're safe, dry, warm and visible in a tight spot, for not too much additional weight/pack size, could be the difference between life or death in Icelandic weather conditions, which is what we got it for. I wish there were instructions for optimal packing away, but I managed it (neater than it arrived as well, tyvm!) just by resorting to the trusty 'shove it all in' method!
Something so simple as this can really transform your days out walking. Not only could it actually help save your life if you become injured, lost, or stuck somewhere by keeping you in a warm cocoon- dry and protected from the wind, but it’s actually brilliant to use for short cuppa / lunch /rest stops. I’ve been so impressed I’ve bought these for family and friends too.
I reckon the vango one is a good investment- it’s strong and robust (never underestimate the power of the wind on fabric on an exposed hill), it has taped seams (although you may still get condensation inside when you use it, it means it’s pretty waterproof against heavy rain and snow outside) and the size is decent for 2 adults (many other makes have narrower/lower dimensions- you don’t want it too big but you do want room to get you and your gear inside). The reflective tape on top may one day come in handy too if you are indeed in need of rescue - you’ve a better chance of being located.
Definitely worth carrying and using on remoter walks and/or wilder weather days to give you some respite from the elements. Yes, it’s a bit bulky, but it’s something you’ll find yourself using on most trips so it earns its place in your rucksack!
Used five or six times now in storms. It's got me and the misses out of the wind and the driving rain, providing a quick and easy shelter to hold up and have something to eat. Definitely worth the money.
Firstly it has to be pointed out that the pictures are the 400. The 200 only has 1 stuff sack/air vent on the opposite side to the window.
Anyway apart from that the 200 is perfect for keeping 2 people safe while out walking with enough room for your kit as well so what more could you want. Bright orange is an understatement and the big reflective X will mean you're very visible from above should the worse happen. It gets very warm in there very quickly but not at all stuffy as the vent does its job nicely.
Most of all though was how light the whole thing is, you can chuck it in the bottom of your bag and it's not going to add any real weight to your bag and the stuff sack is a very cleverly part of the shelter so you'll not lose it.
I know this is meant to be an emergency shelter and maybe not meant to be comfortable but 2 fully grown adults are not going to be comfortable in here. It’s a tight squeeze! Buy the 4 man.
